Lives impacted for the better in May 2024

Josmitha George Fernandes joined MB in Dec 2023 with the Clinical Operations Team with Surgery Care.

Situation

A 69 year old man was suffering from blurry vision and trouble seeing clearly at night.

Customer problem

He experienced sensitivity to light and glare; it had become extremely difficult for him to perform his daily household chores.

How I went ahead and displayed customer obsession to help the customer

A 69-year-old patient, who had a history of diabetes and hypertension, consulted with a doctor who recommended cataract surgery to achieve the fastest clear vision. Understandably, the patient was anxious about the procedure.

As the Patient's Clinical Coordinator, I Josmitha George Fernandes addressed all his doubts and fears regarding the surgery. I verified that he was not taking any aspirin tablets. The patient's diabetes and hypertension were well-controlled. I advised him to take a head shower before the surgery since he would be unable to do so for ten days post-operation.

I also consulted with the doctor and confirmed that the patient could continue taking his diabetes and hypertension medications before the surgery. To alleviate his anxiety, I reassured him, explaining that the procedure was simple, of short duration, and had a success rate of over 99%. I provided psychological support to help him cope with his fear and anxiety.

On the day of the surgery, the patient was advised to take his medications and have breakfast. He was also prescribed eye drops to use before and on the day of the surgery. We arranged for a cab to transport him to the hospital.

After examining his cornea, the patient was deemed fit for surgery. He was admitted to the hospital on June 7th, underwent the surgery the same day, and was discharged shortly after. The 45-minute procedure was completed successfully.

Post-Surgery Care

I called and spoke with the patient’s son, explaining the post-surgery care needed for the patient. I emphasized the importance of rest, especially after using eye drops. I reiterated that the patient should avoid head showers for ten days post-surgery, as the cornea would be sensitive.

I advised the patient to stay away from flickering lights and sunlight and to avoid splashing water on his face and eyes. He can use wet wipes very gently to clean his face. Additionally, he should not rub his eyes, should avoid cold weather, and should keep himself warm. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is crucial to prevent the cornea from drying out. I advised the patient to take all prescribed drops on time. Ensuring adherence to the medication regimen is crucial for optimal recovery.

Furthermore, I ensured that I guided them on collecting the discharge summary without fail and took the time to explain the discharge summary to him in detail, ensuring that he fully understood his post-operative instructions and follow-up care plan.

The follow-up doctor consultation visit occurred on June 8th. I made the third follow-up call with the patient on June 10th. The next follow-up consultation is scheduled for June 14th. Based on his current eye condition, the patient may proceed with the surgery for his second eye.

The patient is extremely happy with my coordination and is immensely thankful to Medibuddy. The patient mentioned that he and his entire family were extremely happy with the entire Medibuddy team being so supportive and took complete Ownership. The patient also said – ‘I take this opportunity to appreciate the creative work started by Medibuddy for people all across India and it is excellent that High Quality Healthcare is being made accessible to all.’

In addition to the aforementioned, we have received commendatory notes from the patient, one conveyed via email and the other adorned with a five-star rating on the Google Play Store. Below, you'll find both the accolades.
